FCC Veteran, Jeremy Marcus, Joins Lerman Senter's Expanding Regulatory Team

Lerman Senter is pleased to announce that former FCC Deputy Bureau Chief Jeremy Marcus joined the firm as a Member on April 22.

“There are very few attorneys who have the breadth of experience or depth of knowledge of Jeremy Marcus,” said Jeff Carlisle, Lerman Senter’s Managing Member. “He was there at the creation of the most important telecom, broadband and wireless policies of the last twenty years. The firm’s clients are extremely lucky to have access to his expertise, and we’re thrilled he’s chosen to build a practice with us.”

Over the course of a 23-year career in federal service, Marcus’s work spanned three FCC Bureaus and in the Executive Branch. Marcus joined the FCC in 2002 as an Attorney in the Wireline Competition Bureau and was soon promoted to Chief of the Telecommunications Access Policy Division, where he oversaw universal service policy and programs. He continued to lead universal service oversight as Associate Chief of WCB, then served as Associate Chief of the Wireless Telecommunications Bureau’s Broadband Division. There, he led efforts to make mid-band spectrum available for mobile broadband use.

After representing the Office of Management and Budget on an interagency panel responsible for reviewing transition plans related to the FCC’s $40 billion AWS-3 auction, Marcus returned to the FCC’s Enforcement Bureau. He served as an Assistant, Associate, and then Deputy Chief of the Enforcement Bureau for over ten years. As Deputy Chief overseeing the Bureau’s Spectrum Enforcement Division and Office of the Field Director, he managed the FCC’s efforts to combat unauthorized use of spectrum and also handled a huge range of telecommunications and national security matters, including drones, pirate radio, space debris, 911 and cybersecurity, and warehousing spectrum.

Prior to working at the FCC, Marcus worked for small communications law firms in Washington and Atlanta, as well as in-house for a major telecommunications company.

“After the FCC, I sought out a firm with a sophisticated tech and telecom practice, but where I could know all my colleagues,” said Marcus. “Lerman Senter turned out to fit that bill, and I am very much looking forward to this next chapter.”
