

Shannon Sylvester specializes in data protection, privacy, cybersecurity, and artificial intelligence (AI) issues for a wide array of clients including those in the technology and communications industries. Shannon is a Certified Information Privacy Professional (CIPP/US) with the International Association of Privacy Professionals.
As a former federal government employee, Shannon brings a unique perspective and understanding of regulatory and enforcement regimes. During her time at the Department of the Treasury, Shannon identified and mitigated national security threats on inbound foreign investment transactions into U.S. companies as part of the Committee on Foreign Investment in the U.S. (CFIUS). Shannon helped negotiate and enforce national security agreements, including assessing penalties for noncompliance.
During law school, she interned at the Federal Trade Commission as a law clerk in the Bureau of Consumer Protection in the Division of Identity Protection and Privacy, where she assisted with investigating companies for COPPA violations, as well as unfair and deceptive acts and practices under Section 5 of the FTC Act.
Shannon also has prior experience in telecommunications law, having worked as a summer associate at a telecommunications firm. While at the firm, she assisted clients in filing comments with the FCC and responding to Notices of Proposed Rulemaking, as well as provided guidance on auctions and spectrum allocation.
