Gateway and Facilities-Based Small Voice Providers Reminded of June 30, 2023 STIR/SHAKEN Deadline

The FCC is reminding facilities-based small voice providers, and gateway providers not subject to further extension, to implement the STIR/SHAKEN caller ID authentication framework in their Internet Protocol (IP) networks by June 30, 2023.

Providers Originally Subject to the June 30, 2023 Extension

Facilities-based small voice providers originally subject to the June 30, 2023 extension for implementing STIR/SHAKEN include those with 100,000 or fewer voice subscriber lines which do not offer voice service to end-users solely using connections that are not sold by the provider or its affiliates.

Gateway providers are subject to the June 30, 2023 deadline unless: (1) they are unable obtain a SPC token, or (2) the provider’s network relies on non-IP technology.

Requirements

Facilities-based small voice service providers and gateway providers must update their certifications and associated filings in the Robocall Mitigation Database within 10 business days of completion of STIR/SHAKEN implementation.

Providers that fail to implement STIR/SHAKEN by June 30, 2023, or to update their certification and associated filing in the Robocall Mitigation Database, may be subject to enforcement actions.
