Annual KidVid Reports Due February 1, 2021; Commercial Limits Certifications Due January 30, 2021

In 2019, the FCC made significant changes to its children’s programming (“KidVid”) rules for television broadcasters. One major change was that KidVid reports (sometimes known as FCC Form 398) were converted to annual, instead of quarterly, filings.

The first annual KidVid report to cover an entire calendar year’s worth of programming is due by February 1, 2021. Each commercial broadcast television station is required to file a report that documents information about the children’s programming the station aired between January 1, 2020 and December 31, 2020.

Stations are also required to upload an annual children’s programming commercial limits certification to their online public inspection files by January 30. The certifications, like the KidVid reports, were formerly filed quarterly but are now completed on an annual basis. Note that the commercial limits certification is due by January 30, but the KidVid report is due by February 1.
