We are pleased to announce that Super Lawyers®-Washington D.C. has named Steven A. Lerman, Meredith S. Senter, Dennis P. Corbett, and Brian M. Madden to its list of Washington D.C.’s most outstanding attorneys for 2010. This is the fourth year in a row that Steve has been named to the list, the third consecutive year that Meredith has been selected, and the second consecutive year that Dennis has been selected. Brian’s selection this year adds a fourth Lerman Senter lawyer to the D.C. Super Lawyers list.
Super Lawyers magazine publishes an annual list of each state’s top attorneys based on practice area. The rigorous selection process considers peer evaluations, professional achievement and other factors that guarantee a diverse selection of the state’s top lawyers. Steve, Meredith, Dennis, and Brian were recognized for their work with communications industry clients. Within the communications practice section, only 61 attorneys were named to the list.
In the course of over thirty-five years of practice, Steve has served as counsel for several of the largest radio companies in the United States, two of the national broadcast television networks and the two largest radio syndication companies. He has also served as a member of the Boards of Directors of three publicly-traded companies in the radio industry. Steve has extensive expertise in the representation of broadcast stations in all areas of Federal Communications Commission regulation, has handled many cases involving government intrusion into content and other First Amendment-related issues, and has served as a member of the Federal Communications Bar Association’s Committee on Professional Responsibility. In addition to his four-time selection by Super Lawyers, in 2005-2008 Steve was selected as one of America’s Leading Lawyers for Business by Chambers USA and in 2009 and 2010 was designated as one of Washington DC’s best lawyers by The Best Lawyers in America. In 2007, he received the Joseph Wharton Award from the Wharton Club of Washington DC for outstanding achievement and service to The University of Pennsylvania and the community, as well as a Distinguished Leadership Award from Penn for his role as Chair of a Scholarship Initiative benefiting financially disadvantaged college students. In 2008, Steve also received an Extraordinary Service Award for pro bono efforts on behalf of the Minority Media and Telecommunications Council.
Meredith has counseled clients, from individuals to large corporations, on regulatory, transactional and commercial matters in the broadcast, cable and telecommunications industries for almost thirty years. He has served as lead counsel on transactions ranging from under $1 million to more than $1.4 billion. He has co-chaired several committees of the American Bar Association and the Federal Communications Bar Association, and has served as a member of the Board of Directors of the Media Financial Management Association. He regularly participates in seminars and conferences of those organizations, as well as the National Association of Broadcasters, and has authored a number of articles concerning the broadcast and telecommunications industries.
Dennis, the head of Lerman Senter’s Broadcast Practice Group, has advised clients on a broad range of regulatory and transactional matters throughout the communications industry and represented clients in major administrative litigation and FCC enforcement proceedings. He has more than thirty years of experience in these areas, and is a frequent panelist at industry conferences and conventions. An active member of the Federal Communications Bar Association, Dennis has served on the FCBA’s Executive Committee and also co-chaired multiple committees including the Enforcement Practice (current), Mass Media Practice, and Access to Records Committees. Dennis has in the past served on the Board of Trustees of the Lowell School in Washington, D.C. and is a past recipient of the Richard B. Barker award, given in recognition of his service on the Board of Trustees of The Barker Foundation, an adoption agency serving metropolitan Washington.
For over thirty years, Brian has specialized in the representation of radio and television station owners in all aspects of regulatory matters before the FCC and in numerous transactions involving the purchase and sale of broadcast properties. Prior to entering private practice, Brian worked in the Broadcast Bureau of the Federal Communications Commission. He has participated on panels regarding regulatory and business issues at many communications industry conventions including the National Association of Broadcasters and the Media Financial Management Association. Brian served as co-chair of the Federal Communications Bar Association's FCC Enforcement Practice Committee from 2004 – 2005 and has also been a member of the FCBA's Committee on Professional Responsibility, the Mass Media Practice Committee, and the Transactional Practice Committee. From 1989-1992, Brian was the President of the Capitol Chapter of the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation International (JDRF). In 1993, he was named the International “Volunteer of the Year” of JDRF. Brian is currently the Treasurer and a member of the Board of Trustees of the Round House Theatre in Bethesda, Maryland, and serves on the Executive and Finance Committees.
