REMINDER: Wireless
Microphones Operating in the 700 MHz Band |
|
|
In January 2010, the FCC released a Report and Order that
mandated that all entities operating wireless microphones and other low power
auxiliary stations on a licensed or unlicensed basis within the 700 MHz
band cease operations in that band by no later than June 12, 2010. The
FCC took this step in order to ensure that public safety and commercial
licensees can operate in the 700 MHz band without interference. As
a result, all entities operating low power auxiliary stations within the
700 MHz band must retune or replace their equipment by June 12, 2010. Low
power auxiliary stations typically transmit over distances of approximately
100 meters for uses such as wireless microphones, cue and control communications
and synchronization of TV camera signals. According
to the FCC, any operations of a low power auxiliary station within the
700 MHz band after June 12, 2010 creates a danger of interference to
important radio communications, and users who operate in violation of this
requirement may be subject to monetary forfeitures, seizure of the radio
equipment or criminal sanctions. Users
of wireless microphones and similar devices that operate outside the
700 MHz band are not affected and can continue to operate. Should
you have any questions concerning this matter, please contact your primary
attorney in our office. June 3, 2010 |
